DOHA: An initiative by Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Thani Secondary School for Boys
to support QNB Stars League clubs featuring in this year's AFC Champions League
has gained in considerable popularity, it emerged on Tuesday.
Al Sadd, Al Rayyan, Al Duhail and Gharafa are the four Qatari football clubs appearing
in AFC Champions League matches.
In a special gathering hosted at the school premises, students and teachers joined hands
with club representatives and officials from the Qatar Football Association (QFA) to
create awareness about the unique presence of four top clubs in this year's AFC Champions
League.
"This celebration organized by the Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Thani Secondary School for
Boys has gained a lot of significance among the students," school principal Hassan Al-Baker
told QFA.
"We welcome such an initiative as it is our duty to support Qatari football clubs featuring
in every top international competition or league," he added. "This initiative will drive the
passion of the young students have for sports in general and football in particular," he
added.
"We welcome the representatives of the clubs and officials of QFA to our school. As you
can see there is a great buzz among the students as they meet with players also," he said.
Akmal Farooq, coordinator of sports education at the school, Abdul Rahman Abdul-Jabbar
and Nabeel Qaid were also present at the gathering.
Al Sadd representatives included Ahmed Al Sayed, Director of Marketing, Yusuf Al Obaidly,
Chairman of the Al Sadd Clubs Association, Saad Al Sahib and Algerian Professional Jugurtha
Hamroun.
Jassem Al-Qurashi, President of Al Gharafa Fans Association was also present as was
Venezuelan midfielder Robert Kijada and Diego Amado. Al-Rayyan Club was represented
by Jaber Salem Al Marri, Marketing Manager, and Ziad Ali Saber.
Al Kass Sports Channel gave a video presentation titled "All Of Us Together" which showed
the support the four clubs enjoy.
For his part, Abdulrahman Al-Jabbar appreciated the role of QFA in putting together the
gathering.
