DOHA: The Qatar national squad and Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) on Wednesday visited the Shafallah Center share the joy of winning the AFC Asian Cup on Friday.
Qatar beat Japan 3-1 in the final at Zayed Sports City Stadium where the 24-team tournament ended in spectacular fashion for captain Hassan Al Haydos and his players.
The players and the QFA delegation were received by Amal bint Abdullatif Al Mannai, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, and Laalei Abu Alfain, Acting Director of Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities.
A huge gathering was present to welcome the players that included the team coach Felix Sanchez.
During the visit at Shafallah Center, QFA President said on Wednesday: “We feel honored to be at Shafallah Center to entertain these kids. I feel overwhelmed to see our boys playing with these kids and making their wish come true. We are glad we made this happen. Witnessing the smiles on these children’s face is a priceless moment for us as a team.”
The visit comes within the framework of the social responsibility programs of QFA which remains committed to constructive partnerships with civil society organizations and football stakeholders.
The reception was followed by a variety of sports activities which were presented by the children of the center. Among them was an event that involved Qatar national team captain Hassan Al Haydos playing soccer with the kids.
Before the end of the visit, QFA President posed with the special kids for pictures as did the national team players.
The QFA President said: "Our visit to Shafallah Center and our presence with these amazing children confirms the most sincere feelings we have for these kids. The joy of winning the 2019 Asian Cup just multiplies by engaging with these kids. This visit underscores QFA's interest in community work and linking it to football."
He added: "Persons with disabilities are an integral part of the Qatari society and there is no doubt that such activities are very important and have great impact in introducing joy and pleasure in the hearts of this precious group of kids. We are keen to participate in such important event."
The students at Shafallah Center welcomed the team players and officials with garlands. The entire team and guests were honored with souvenirs which were handed over to them by children.
Laalei Abu Alfain, Acting Director of Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, said on Wednesday: “We are thrilled to see our champion team with us. Our smiles show how we feel. Qatar winning Asian Cup for the first time is historic. This team has made our kids happy and excited. We highly appreciate the efforts of our team and we are proud on their victory.”
Hassan Al Haydos, captain of the Qatar national squad, said on Wednesday: “I would like to thank Shafallah Center for having us here and filling these special children with joy. It is our pleasure to celebrate our victory with them this victory is very important and close to our hearts. We are happy to see our brothers and sisters happy on our visit.”
He added :“This achievement is historic we don’t have words to express our feelings. Our team performed flawlessly and we expect to perform the same in up-coming games. Thanks to our coach Felix Sanchez for guiding and managing us very well throughout the tournament.”
Key player Abdulkarim Hassan said on Wednesday: “We heard the students wanted to welcome us at the airport and this didn’t happen due to security reasons. We came to them to make their wish come true. It’s an honour to be here with these children and looking at their enthusiasm for football fill our hearts with more courage and confidence to perform well in up-coming matches."
