Fergana, Uzbekistan: Coach Inake adabia on Saturday said his team deserved a better result against Vietnam in their AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 matchday 2 clash. Despite netting a well-deserved 84th-minute equaliser, Qatar conceded a late goal as the match at Isteqlol Stadium ended in a 1-2 defeat for Al Annabi. “We are sad that we lost the match. We deserved a much better outcome. My team fought hard to get an equaliser, and we did; we had the choice to either sit back and defend or to push for a second goal, but unfortunately, we conceded late in the match from a set-piece,” the Spaniard said. “Unlike the match against Iran, today, We were clearly the better side; we played the type of football we are accustomed to; we dominated throughout the game while the opponent relied on a counterattack strategy. He added that we created so many chances in front of the goal, especially in the first half, but failed to convert”. This is Qatar’s second defeat on the trot, following a 0-1 defeat to Iran in the opening round. “In the second half, they were bolstered by the goal they scored, we found it more difficult to break down their defenses as they made sure to close spaces and sit back, but our efforts paid off eventually and we got the goal we were after” he said. After Al Rawi scored from the spot to make things even, it seemed Qatar was the likelier of the two sides to score the winner just off the momentum and how the game was shaping up. However, a 90th-minute free-kick resulted in Vietnam scoring the winning goal to reach six points and sit atop the group. Qatar will next take on Australia in the closing round of Group B on Tuesday, while Iran vie against Vietnam simultaneously.
