DOHA: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa is confident that 2022 FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar. The Bahraini football chief in Asia made his remarks during a TV interview. During the course of the interview, Sheikh Salman also said the decision to stage the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup in summer or winter will be decided by the end of the first quarter of 2015. Last year FIFA appointed Sheikh Salman as the chief of a committee tasked to find out the feasibility of staging the 2022 FIFA World Cup in winter. Sheikh Salman will engage all FIFA stakeholders before revealing his findings to FIFA President Sepp Blatter. "We, as Arabs and Asians, must stand together and get behind the 2022 FIFA World Cup (in Qatar). We look at it as a World Cup being held in Asia," Sheikh Salman said. "In my opinion, this region deserves to hold this great event," the AFC President added. "Qatar has the infrastructure and can organize an event as big as the World Cup. "I think Qatar's bid was one of the most attractive bids in recent years," Sheikh Salman pointed out. "We must talk about the right issues," Sheikh Salman added. "Negative press doesn't help. It is clear for us that the World Cup will be held in Qatar," he added. Sheikh Salman said the only point worth debating is whether the FIFA World Cup will be moved to winter in 2022. "At the time of bidding, Qatar said it will hold the FIFA World Cup in summer and am I sure they are ready for it," Sheikh Salman said.
