Manama: Asian Football Confederation President and FIFA Executive Committee member Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa will today chair the first task force team meeting to determine the dates of the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich.
The meeting is scheduled to begin with a speech by FIFA President Joseph Blatter, who will be addressing representatives of the football confederations, associations, clubs, leagues and FIFA business partners.
During the meeting, a number of debates regarding the proposed dates for the 2022 World Cup will be discussed, in addition to reviewing the notes to be presented by representatives of relevant authorities in order to reach an agreement in regards to the most suitable dates to host this major international football event.
The FIFA Executive Committee decided in its meeting held last October to form a task force, headed by AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, to oversee the consultation process for determination of the 2022 World Cup dates.
The AFC has already stressed the importance of conducting a comprehensive study to determine the competition’s timetable, taking into account the global football programme, and is giving this matter the highest priority.
