AFC U17: Qatar is set for Iran test in matchday 2

Bangkok, Thailand Qatar will go into their second Group B match of the AFC U17 Asian Cup Thailand 2023 with the hope of gaining a crucial victory against Iran when the two teams meet Monday evening at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Qatar head into the game having suffered a painful loss to Korea in their opening match, but with two rounds still to go, the Maroons still harbour hopes of advancing to the next phase. Their opponents couldn’t have had a more different start o the tournament; Iran faced little resistance as they steamrolled through Afghanistan with a scoreline of 6-1 in the other matchday 1 in the group. “After a disappointing defeat at the beginning of the tournament, we made sure to look ahead and focus on the task at hand; we prepared the players both mentally and physically and worked to fix the mistakes that cost us in the first game. When questioned if the tight schedule of the tournament may affect his team's preparation for tomorrow's game, he said, he replied, “We have enjoyed a good preparation period ahead of the tournament and have trained to perform under such conditions; the players have fully recovered and are ready for the match ”, Qatar head coach Ibrahim Shafie said ahead of the game. “This is the first major tournament for this group of players, and errors are bound to happen given the magnitude of the occasion and what it means to them, but overall, I have faith they will bounce back and give it all they’ve got”. Korea Reublic will take on Afghanistan in the other group match. After posting identical 6-1 results in the opening round, Korea and Iran share the group lead with three points apiece.
