Qatar U-20 Exit Gulf Cup After Loss to Saudi Arabia

Abha, Saudi Arabia: The journey of Qatar U-20 in the Arabian Gulf Championship has concluded. The team finished its campaign in the group stage after a 2-0 loss to its Saudi counterpart today at the Prince Sultan Sports City Stadium in Abha.

 

This final result means Qatar finish at the bottom of Group A with a single point, earned from an initial 2-2 draw with Kuwait. This was followed by a second match, a 0-1 defeat to Yemen, which ultimately proved decisive for their chances.

 

In the match against Saudi Arabia, a tense first half ended without goals. The deadlock was broken in the 68th minute by Adel Abbas, and Abdulrazzaq Awaji added a second in stoppage time to confirm the win for the Saudis.

 

The other match in the group saw Yemen defeat Kuwait 2-0 at the Damac Club Stadium. This result secured Yemen the group's second qualifying spot with 6 points, behind group winners Saudi Arabia who finished with 7. Kuwait finished third with 2 points.

 

The tournament continues until September 10th, with all matches being held at the Prince Sultan Sports City Stadium and the Damac Club Stadium. The semi-finals are scheduled to commence on September 7th.
