Doha: In a thrilling showdown at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha on Wednesday night, Al Bidda secured the coveted 2023-24 Qatar Football Association's QFA Cup title for the season after a tense penalty shootout against Al Shahaniya, emerging victorious with a 5-3 scoreline.
This triumph marks a significant milestone for Al Bidda, as it is only their second major title in the club's history. Their journey to glory began in the previous season when they clinched the Second Division Cup, again triumphing over Al Shahaniya.
The highly anticipated title clash commenced with Al Shahaniya taking an early lead courtesy of a brilliantly executed free-kick by Belgian striker Francesco Antonucci in the 6th minute. However, Al Bidda's perseverance paid off as Yamin Hameed netted an impressive equalizer in the 67th minute, setting the stage for an exhilarating finale.
With the scoreboard reading 1-1 at full time, the game progressed to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Al Bidda showcased their expertise in spot kicks, securing victory with crucial saves from their substitute goalkeeper. Akram El Hamdawi, Abdel-Jalil Manser, Bright Enobakari, and Mohamed Omar Suleiman were all on target for Al Bidda, while Ali Ahmed Al Omari, Mohamed Ismail, and Mustafa Jalal found the net for Al Shahaniya during the shootout.
Al Bidda and Al Shahaniya earned their spots in the final through thrilling semi-final encounters that also went to shootouts. Al Bidda edged past Al Khor 6-5 after a goalless draw in regular time, while Al Shahaniya prevailed over Mesaimeer 5-4 following a 1-1 deadlock.
