DOHA: Former Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions Al Gharafa will hold a three-week training camp in Germany before switching their attention to reclaiming lost glory, a top club official said. Saud Fateh, Team Director of Al Gharafa, said the Cheetahs will be in Germany from July 31 to August 23. With new coach Péricles Chamusca leading the way, Al Gharafa will look to a fresh start when the new QSL season kicks-off in September this year. Last week club officials confirmed Al Gharafa have decided to increase the number of friendly matches to be played during the team’s training camp in Germany to six games, instead of the original four. Four out of the six matches have been scheduled already and will take place on August 12, 15, 19 and 22. Al Gharafa’s overseas training camp will commence on July 31 but the squad will meet on July 5 to carry out light training and prepare for the trip to Europe. "We have set things in motion by getting a new coach and finalizing the contracts," Fateh said in an interview. "The club management headed by Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani is making every effort to strengthen the team with quality players like Congolese striker (Alain) Dioko, QSL's top scorer in the last two seasons," Fateh added. "We hope he performs in similar fashion with Al Gharafa now," Fateh added. "I hope we have will take care of the errors made in the last season," Fateh said. "Also, we hope we won't be affected by injuries that cost us points last season," Fateh said. "Injuries to key players was a major concern for us," he added. "Our new coach will arrive in Doha at the beginning of July and we will assemble for our first training sessions around mid-July," he added.
