Al Haydos lauds promising display against Russia

Doha: As Qatar builds up for the upcoming Asian Cup in Doha 2023, as well as the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup, team captain Hassan Al-Haydos has expressed his satisfaction with the level presented by Al-Annabi against Russia in today's match, in which the two nations shared a 1-1 draw.   Following the game, Al-Haydos commented, "We performed well, and we wanted to end this game with a victory, even if it was a friendly match."   The skipper acknowledged the significant impact of Carlos Queiroz's instructions, asserting that the team's commendable performance resulted from sticking to the Portuguese’s game plan. The 32-year-old expressed optimism, stating that Annabi's impressive display laid a solid foundation for future success. He also the thanked the home supporters for showing up in large numbers in both matches.   In a confident tone, he expressed, "Our sights are firmly set on the upcoming Asian Cup, a significant tournament in which we are determined to defend our title from 2019. Additionally, we are eagerly eyeing the joint Asian qualifiers, aiming to secure our spot in the World Cup for the second time."   He concluded, "In my assessment, the team exhibited great promise, particularly given that seven players are making their international debut. As time progresses, they will acquire the necessary adaptation and experience to thrive in this new setting".
