Al Jassim leaves for Colombo, Abdullah set for Asian Games role

DOHA: Qatar referee Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Al Jassim - who has officiated in many international football matches - has left for Colombo where he will be the principal referee at the AFC President's Cup. Saud Ahmed Saud will be the second Qatari referee to officiate at the event to be held in Colombo next week. The 2014 AFC President's Cup is the 10th, and the last edition of the AFC President's Cup, a football competition organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for clubs from "emerging countries" in Asia. Al Jassim is a regular in Qatar Stars League matches every season. The AFC President's Cup will be held in Colombo from September 20 to 26. Qatari referee Fahad Jaber Al-Marri will officiate in the semifinals of the AFC U-16 Championship currently being held in Bangkok. Ali Shabaan of Kuwait and a Thai official will be the assistant referees. The names were announced by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Tuesday. Qatar also featured in the tournament but were knocked out in the group phase. Also, Abdullah Dar Mohammed Al Baleeda officiated in the opening match of the Asian Games in Inchoen. Korea beat Malaysia 3-0 in the match. Abdullah was assisted by Yasir Murad of Kuwait, Faisal Shuair of Jordan and Khamis Al Marri of Qatar
