Al Sadd drawn in Group B in King Salman Cup

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Al Sadd were drawn to play Tunisian Sfaxien in the first of the qualifying rounds for the King Salman Club Cup, the draw for which was held in Riyadh . Saudi Arabia is hosting the tournament in three cities - Taif, Abha and Al Baha. The first round of the King Salman Cup begins on March 13 and continues until April 12, 2023, and the second round begins on May 8 and ends on June 7, 2023, with the matches being played on a knockout system, back and forth. Al Sadd are one of the six clubs that along with ten other clubs qualify directly. Besides Al Sadd, the other clubs - champions ofArab leagues - are Moroccan Wydad, Tunisian Esperance club, Egyptian Zamalek, Algerian Belouizdad, Saudi club Al Hilal and Al Nasr. Al Sadd are in group B which also includes Al Hilal, Wydad, and the fourth qualifier from the preliminary round matches. Zamalek are in Group C along with Saudi club, Al Nasr, led by the Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo. The Arab Football Association announced earlier the establishment of the 2023 edition of the King Salman Club Championship in Saudi Arabia, with the participation of 37 Arab clubs, and announced financial prizes estimated at $10 million. The list of first-round clubs includes: Morocco’s Al Gaish Al Malaky, Egypt’s Talaea Al Gaish, Tunisia’s Sfaxien and Ettihad Al Ministiry, Algerian Shabab Saoura and Saudi’s Al Shabab, Al Sadd from Qatar, Al Wehda of UAE, Al Seeb and Al Nahda from Amman. It is worth noting that the beginning of the Arab Clubs Cup League Championship was in 1982, which was held on a home-and-away system, and its first title was won by the Iraqi Police Club, and after this the championship was held 17 times until 2001, when the last version of it was held in Qatar and was won by Al Sadd.
