DOHA: A spirited display from Al Shahaniya saw the football minnows in
the country topple giants Al Gharafa in Emir Cup on Saturday.
Al Shahaniya edged Qatar Stars League (QSL) giants Al Gharafa 7-6 on
penalties at Grand Hamad Stadium.
The winners now face Qatar SC on May 10 at Lekhwiya Stadium.
The match was full of surprises and at times fans witnessed rugged
football as teams stretched to find the winning goal.
Both sides ended the regulation time 2-2.
In another game, Al Khor stunned troubled Al Arabi 4-1 at Shaim bin
Hamad Satdium.
Al Arabi’s youngster Mohammed Khalfan scored the first half’s lone
goal on 44 minutes to give hope to coach Jose Carreno, who for the past
two weeks was battling off the field concerns related to player/club relations.
It was a different story in the latter 45 minutes, as Al Khor hit four times
through a brace from Madson in the 51st and 85th minutes. Reza Shanbeh
and Julio Cesar completed the scoring in the 64th and 69th minutes
respectively.
In other matches on Saturday, Al Rayyan beat Al Ahli 5-3 on penalties
Umm Salal also advanced by beating Al Sailiya 3-0.
