Doha: Earlier last week Al Sadd coach Hussein Ammouta had hoped
for a “gift” from Al Shahaniyain the form of a win against league leaders
Lekhwiya.
Yesterday his wish half came true, as 13th-placed Al Shahaniya pulled off
an unlikely 3-3 draw againstMichael Laudrup’s side — thereby giving
Ammouta’s team an outside chance of winning the Qatar StarsLeague
title.
Al Sadd also did their part by thrashing Al Gharafa 5-1 yesterday to reduce
Lekhwiya’s lead to five points.
Two goals by Hamza Haji and strikes by Yousuf Ahmed, Muriqui and Grafite
swayed the game in Al Sadd’sfavour while Claudiu Keseru pulled one back
for Al Gharafa.
After yesterday’s draw, Lekhwiya now have to wait until April 12, when they
face Al Ahli, to try and wrap uptheir fourth league title in five years.
Meanwhile, Al Shahaniya remain in 13th place, one point behind Al Wakrah.
