DOHA: Qatar Stars League (QSL) outfit Al Wakrah have signed a two-year
deal with Uruguayan José Mauricio.
Mauricio was unveiled at a press conference on Sunday at the club premises.
The Uruguayan will manage the QSL side until 2017 season, club
officials said on Sunday.
Club officials Salman Abdul Ghani, Sheikh Nasser bin Hassan Al Thani,
and Abdullah Saqr were present during the press conference.
Abdul Ghani said selection of players to play for Al Wakra will be
carried out in conjunction with the new coach.
He added that the club remained hopeful of better performances in the
coming season.
Sheikh Nasser said the appointment of Mauricio was confirmed after
detailed study of the Uruguayan's 'impressive resume'.
"We hope to ring in success when the new season commences," Sheikh Nasser said.
"We wanted change and we have taken the first step to move towards
success next season," he added.
Al Wakrah finished 12th last season.
The new coach has replaced Serbian tactician Goran Tufegdžić.
Mauricio, 45, will lead the squad at a training camp in Italy, details
