DOHA: The friendly match between the national teams of Algeria and Gambia, which was scheduled to be played today, January 1, 2022, at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium has been cancelled due to postitve cases of Covid-19 in the Gambia camp, which led to the unavailability of a sufficient number of players to play the match, in addition to travel and return policies in light of the pandemic.
The concerned department will contact fans who purchased match tickets for reimbursement; it was announced on Saturday.
The Qatar Football Association (QFA) is currently hosting training camps for Algeria, Ghana and Gambia as part of their preparations to compete in the Africa Cup of Nations 2022, which Cameroon will host from Jan 9 to Feb 6.
Ghana are in Group C with Morocco, Comoros Island and Gabon. At the same time, Algeria will compete with Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea, and Cote d’Ivoire in Group E. Gambia will play in Group F with Tunisia, Mali and Mauritania.
QFA, as per past practice, has previously hosted training camps to help prepare the teams of Algeria and Syria in preparation for their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Africa and AFC Asian Cup 2023.
