DOHA: Feared striker Almoez Ali has expressed happiness following his team’s crushing victory over rivals UAE in the Arab Cup quarterfinals where Qatar won 5-0 on Friday.
Almoez, the Man of the Match, scored two vital goals as Qatar dominated proceedings at the Al Bayt Stadium where 63,439 fans had turned up to watch Asian champions post a convincing win.
Almoez has scored 39 international goals in 78 matches with the Qatari national team.
“The big win gives us motivation to do well in the semifinals. We know we have to work hard to overcome our rivals and we must play with responsibility so we could continue posting wins,” Almoez said in an interview.
“We focus on each match separately. We always have the determination to win and give our best and implement the coach’s instructions. Our coach (Felix Sanchez) is making a great effort with us,” he added.
He explained that his passion for scoring goals does not depend on a particular team as he works hard off the field to realize his dreams.
“I know that I have a big responsibility to score goals for my team. I always look to create opportunities to score,” he added.
The Qatar striker said he is happy to be close to becoming the national team's top scorer at the FIFA Arab Cup but his greatest happiness would be to help his team in every tournament it competes in.
“This is a big event and to see my team do well feels really good,” he added.
Almoez said: “The next match will be even more difficult than the previous one. We must work hard and strive for more until we reach the final. The FIFA Arab Cup event is a new step for us and kind of a dress rehearsal for the World Cup next year. We are all very focused at the moment.”
