DOHA: The draw for the round of 16 of the Amir Cup was in the presence of QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani on Wednesday.
Defending champions Al Duhail will face Al Kharaitiyat in one matchup, while Al Sailiya will face Al Rayyan in the other. The winners of these two matches will meet in the quarter-finals.
The participating teams were divided into two pools, the first of which consists of the eight teams who finished first to eighth in the last season of the QNB Stars League. As for the second pool, it includes the teams ranked ninth to 12th in the QNB Stars League last season, the top three ranked teams from last season's Second Division League, in addition to Muaither, which won the preliminary round game.
Al-Arabi will take on Al-Shamal, while Al-Ahli face Muaither, and the two winners will clash in the next round.
Next up, is a showdown between Umm Salal and Al Khor, the winners will take on either Al Sadd or Al Markhiya.
Al Markhiya, currently eighth in the Qatar Stars League table, will be headlined upfront by Moroccan Idris Fathawi and Omani Jamil Al-Yahmadi.
The matches will be played on a knockout system. In case of a stalemate during regulation time, a penalty shootout will be played to get a clear winner.
Al Duhail won the 50th edition of HH the Amir Cup, beating Al Gharafa 5-1.
