HAMILTON, New Zealand: Qatar coach Felix Sanchez on Saturday said he was satisfied with the commitment shown by his players in the three games at the FIFA U-20 World Cup where the team got knocked out after three pulsating games. After taking the lead on Saturday, Qatar conceded two late goals in the second half against Senegal at Waikato Stadium. Earlier in the week, Qatar lost to South American giants Colombia 1-0 followed by a defeat at the hands of European powerhouse Portugal. "I think we had good moments and good phases in all the three games," Sanchez said on Saturday as he summed up Qatar's performances over the week in New Zealand. "I think we need to understand that it was a big success for the country and the players to play at the FIFA U-20 World Cup," Sanchez said. "Hopefully we will use this experience and move forward. As a team we had enjoyed some good phases. As individuals there were some players who were softer for this stage. Hopefully we will keep working and we will catch up with some of the top teams in the future," he added. "We can't tell the players they didn't do their best. We played sides from Africa, Europe and South America. It was a strong group with really tough sides," Sanchez said. "It was not easy at all. It was not easy for our rivals to beat Qatar. Yes, we would have been more satisfied with points though," he added. "Believe me they (the players) tried really, really hard. This event has shown us where we are in terms of competing with the top sides. We can analyse ourselves now. We will try to keep improving to get better results at future events," he explained. Sanchez said Senegal used a physical game in the second half to score a win on Saturday. "I think in the first half, we did quite well in front of a team that is very physical. They are better than us because they are stronger. We could do some damage. We felt comfortable in the first half but it was difficult to stop their counter-attacks in the second half," Sanchez said. "It was hard for us in the second half when play beame a lot more physical for us. We couldn't combine well after they scored the first goal because there was pressure that we had to score to win. When they scored the second, it was all over for us. "I think it was quite hard for us because they started to play a lot of physical game. They started to play directly which was not good for us. And it was quite hard. "We started the game with players bothered by niggles. It has been three games in one week. But these three games tested us. I think my team was physically good," Sanchez said. Sanchez said some of the U-20 players will join the Qatar Olympic squad. "First thing we will do is go to Doha (smiles). I think there is no more U-20 competition anywhere so I guess some of the players will be called up to the Olympic squad," Sanchez said. "We will continue with some of these players going to the national (Olympic) squad. Some of them will continue with the U-18 bunch. We have a very young squad. Some of them can still play the future qualification at U-17-18 level and play the World Cup again," he said.
