RIYADH: Qatar coach Djamel Belmadi on Sunday lashed out Yemen's
defensive tactics, saying the Arab side seemed determined to get a
draw.
Qatar were held to a 0-0 draw in their second Gulf Cup match at King
Fahd International Stadium on Sunday.
It was Qatar's second draw after their goalless draw against Saudi
Arabi on Thursday.
"Yemen did not play attacking football. They seemed to be playing with
11 defenders," Belmadi said on Sunday after the game.
"It was surprising to see them stay back and defend most of the time.
That's why we didn't see any attacking football," Belmadi said.
"When we played Saudi Arabia, we were playing to win unlike Yemen who
wanted to defend. They wasted time by falling on the pitch," Belmadi
said after the match that lasted 99 minutes.
"We tried to create chances and we succeeded in doing that but we
couldn't score goals. The game ended in a draw and that's normal," he
added.
"We were playing to win but ended up playing a draw which is not a bad
result," Belmadi said.
