DOHA: Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba will go under the knife in the coming days at the Aspetar Centre in Doha, Qatar, following a groin pain, the Ivorian FA confirmed on Friday.
The 35-year-old striker, who will likely part ways with Turkish club Galatasaray in May, travelled to Qatar this week for a medical checkup concerning a groin problem he has been dragging for weeks.
It is yet unclear how the operation will affect the former Chelsea talisman’s participation at the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, but a source at the Ivorian FA, who is in contact with the hospital, said Drogba would recover long enough before the showpiece.
Drogba opted for the Aspetar Centre because of an existing agreement between the Qatari facility and the Ivorian Football Federation to provide medical assistance to the Elephants before and during the 2014 World Cup.
Other Ivory Coast internationals Bamba Souleymane, Traore Lacina and Mathis Bolly have also been treated at the centre.
