Doha: This year’s final of the Qatar Cup will be a rematch of last year’s thrilling title clash as Qatar Stars League (QSL) winners Lekhwiya and El Jaish will battle for the coveted title in the May 1 final. In yesterday’s semi-finals, Lekhwiya trounced Qatar Sports Club 5-1 to set up a title clash with last year’s Qatar Cup winners El Jaish. El Jaish won the inaugural edition of Qatar Cup after defeating Lekhwiya on penalties last April. At the Abdulla bin Khalifa Stadium in the second semi-final, coach Michael Laudrup’s side went into the half time break with a 2-0 lead and added three more goals in the second half. 20150426231117_1430079077.971 Lekhwiya hardly took time to settle down and went in to the lead in the very eight minute. Qatar international Sebastian Soria gave the lead breaking open the rival defense. Thereafter Lekhwiya tried to increase the lead but had to wait till the 43rd minute to get their second goal with Youssef Msakni getting his name on the scorers list. In the second half Mohamed Moosa Ali increased the lead in the 78th minute. Substitute Mohamed Razaq struck twice late into the match to out the issue beyond doubt scoring in the 85th and in injury time. Earlier at the same venue, El Jaish crushed Al Sadd 3-1 to secure their place in the final. Anderson Vieira Martins opened the scoring for El Jaish, finding the Al Sadd net in the 22nd minute of the first semi-final. After a few tense exchanges, both teams walked off with El Jaish leading Al Sadd. However, in the second half, Yousf Ahmed Ali scored for Al Sadd in the 48th minute as the visitors managed to reel in an equalizer. But El Jaish grabbed the lead again as Romario Ricardo Silva chipped one from close range over goalkeeper Saad Abdullah Aldosari in the 57th minute. Minutes later, the scoreline became 3-1 as in the 72nd minute, Wagner Renan Ribeiro curled in a free-kick from the flank that ended with El Jaish scoring successfully. The expertly taken free-kick from Ribeiro dipped for team-mate Mohammed Muntari who flicked the ball over the head of goalkeeper Saad. The ball ricocheted off the crossbar and hit the back of goalkeeper Saad before trickling into the net. Al Sadd coach Hussein Amuta was left fuming as El Jaish produced a mini-lap of honour after Muntari’s goal that would prove decisive. In a dramatic turn of events, referee Abdulrahman Jassim rather harshly flashed a red card at Al Sadd captain Nadir Belhadj who brought down Magid Mohammed Hassan in the 80th minute. Belhadj, winner of many a trophy with Al Sadd, walked off in a fury as Al Sadd officials quibbled with the referee and match officials. The attention will turn to the final now. Earlier in the week, the QSL announced that the 2015 edition of the Qatar Cup will offer fans a chance to win QR 2m worth of prizes in the three games. At each semi-finals at Lekhwiya Stadium yesterday, a lucky fan got to win a brand new Toyota courtesy of the QSL’s official sponsors AAB Toyota.
