DOHA: More than 80 car enthusiasts produced a unique drive - making a
beeline with the Emir Cup trophy in a procession that delighted
football fans around the country.
The Emir Cup - the country's most popular football event - every year
reaches out to new audiences through a festive atmosphere and unique
programs like the one enacted out last week.
Mawater Centre, operating under the auspices of the Ministry for Youth
and Sports, charted out a road trip in which a fleet of 80 cars
started off from Doha.
Mohammed Al Suwaidi, former Al Rayyan and Qatar star, featured in the
event that was hugely followed by fans across the country.

Abdullah Al Hajri, Director General, Mawater, and Hamad Abdullah Al
Kuwari, Chief Operating Officer and Director of Marketing and
Communication Department at QFA, have all commented onthe event.
Mawater joined hands with Qatar Football Association (QFA) to promote
the event which will conclude later this month on May 24.
The fleet of cars zigged-zagged through the streets of Doha before
ending in Al Wakra.

Al Suwaidi said: "I am delighted to be part of this campaign. As you
can see this unique event has attracted the attention of football fans
in Qatar."
He added: "I think this was a fun event which was a huge success."
Al-Hajri said: "When this idea was broached, we thought it was a
unique gesture. We thought we should do this as it will promote our
hugely popular event."
He added: "This was a good way of inviting fans to come to Emir Cup
games. I think the young fans warmed up to the idea in a unique way."
With cars moving in harmony, the traffic department handled the show in
a smooth manner, Al-Hajri said.
Al Kuwari said: "We always welcome ideas to promote the Emir Cup. Any
idea that is popular gets our approval. It was fun being part of this
campaign".
He added: "We are reaching out to new audiences. We want fans to know
the history of the Emir Cup as well the teams playing in the event
every year."
He said: "And of course, we want fans supporting their favourite teams
in the stadium on match days."
Salem Al Mohannadi of Mawater said: "We had been planning this
activity meticulously for sometime. We are delighted that it was such
a hit with fans."
