Doha: Al Rayyan Brazilian striker Rodrigo Tabata celebrated the signing of a fresh three-year contract with the club by netting a brace in the 2-1 win over Al Wakrah in the second round match of the Emir Cup at Al Arabi Stadium here yesterday.
Tabata, who renewed his contract with the club for three additional seasons effective from next season, struck in the 11th and 77 minute to take his team to the third round.
Tabata expressed his happiness and gratitude after signing the three-year contract and said that Al Rayyan is his first home and that it is very difficult to leave such a Club. He also stated that his family too love the club and have settled well in the Qatari capital.
“My aim in the coming period is to achieve some titles and championships in order for Al Rayyan to regain and assume their natural standing among the top teams of the Qatar Stars League. Also my second goal is to gain the QSL title for the coming season in addition to the GCC Club Championship and Emir Cup titles.”
He stressed that he will exert all efforts to make Al Rayyan fans satisfied and accomplish the team’s goals for the coming season.
In the other matches yesterday, Al Shahaniya edged Al Kharaitiyat 8-7 in the penalty shoot-out at Al Arabi Stadium. At the end of regular period of play, the teams were locked three all.
At Qatar SC Stadium, Al Khor trounced Mesaimear 4-0 and Al Sailiya edged Al Shamal 2-0.
In the third round matches on May 2, Al Shahaniya face Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan will take on Al Ahli, both matches will be played at Al Arabi Stadium.
At Qatar SC on the same day, Al Arabi square to Al Khor while Umm Salal and Al Sailiya will vie for a place in the fourth round.
Qatar SC, El Jaish, Al Sadd and Lekhwiya have been directly seeded into the fourth round, matches which will take place on May 10 and 11.
