DOHA: Al Rayyan's new signing Sergio Garcia is aiming to help his new employers reach the top in Qatar Stars League (QSL), the seasoned striker said. In his first media chat after being unveiled as an Al Rayyan player, the former Espanyol striker said he would also try to outdo 'friend' Xavi Hernandez who will be playing for Doha giants Al Sadd in the new season. "I am happy to sign this contract," Garcia said in his first media chat along side new coach Jorge Fossati. The seasoned Uruguayan coach also joined Al Rayyan at the end of last month. "The warm welcome and the attention I have received is amazing. I will be trying my best to match their support for me by playing quality football in the new season," the 32-year-old said. "I wish I can put Al Rayyan where it belongs: at the top in Qatar Stars League with good performances," Garcia added. "I knew about QSL and had prior knowledge before I signed the deal. I did talk to many players before I reached my decision," he added. '"I will help the young players in Al Rayyan. That's been my role wherever I have played," he said. "Xavi is a close friend of mine. I am happy that he is also here playing for Al Sadd. But I hope to do better than him in the new season since we are rivals now," Garcia said. Garcia said his contract with Al Rayyan is for two years with a possibility of extending to a third year if both parties agreed. "I have followed Qatar Stars League and how Raul played here," he said. "I would like to replicate the same kind of success that he had here.” The new QSL season starts on September 11.
