Fahad Thani attends AFC Technical committee meeting

DOHA: Fahad Thani , Head of the Football Development of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), Tuesday, participated in the meeting of the AFC Technical Committee via video communication technology, chaired by Kohzo Tashima. The Committee recognized Asian teams' recent achievements on the global stage and emphasized the need of the AFC continuing its broad efforts to improve the quality and quantity of Asian coaches. In view of the strategic reforms to the AFC’s club competitions which will be introduced from the 2024/25 season, the Committee agreed that the current Minimum Coaching Requirements (MCR) for the current AFC Champions League will apply to both the AFC Champions League Elite and the AFC Champions League 2; whilst the MCR for the AFC Cup will apply to the AFC Challenge League. Members of the Committee were also pleased to note the continued and crucial impact of the AFC Coaching Convention in raising the capabilities of the Continent’s tutors and educators, and strengthening the development of Asia’s future coaches across all levels. At the same time, the Committee also approved the key principles and parameters of the Technical Agreement between the AFC and its sister Confederation UEFA, which will pave the way for the mutual recognition of coaching qualifications and greater collaboration and knowledge exchange in all aspects of coach education. The Committee was also updated on the latest developments of the two corresponding milestone technical programmes – the AFC Elite Youth Scheme and the AFC Grassroots Charter memberships – as well as the AFC Special Grassroots and Elite Youth Football Awards 2023.
