Bangkok: Qatar Under 16 coach Oscar Fernandez believes his young players have come a long a way in improving despite seeing their continental campaign ended in the Group stage following a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia.
"The players put all their commitment out on the pitch, but it was a difficult game against Saudi Arabia as we knew we had to win," said Qatar coach Oscar Fernandez.
"But for us the game was good and we have improved in this tournament, but we have gone out".
"We need this type of tournament to improve and this is one step for the future, although it is hard to think about this now."
"This was the third game we play in only five days, these players are only 16, of course, fatigue will eventually catch up to them.
"We didn't win any of the three games and I am not happy as I don't understand this. But this is football and we need to improve with these players and in the next tournament they will have more experience, If we scored the penalties we have missed ( against Syria and Saudi) we could have qualified as group winners, but it didn't happen".
