KUALA LUMPUR: Qatar beat the UAE 2-1 in theirAsian Futsal Cup qualifying match.
Qatar topped Group B on goal difference at the qualifying campaign concluded yesterday.
The Qataris kicked-off their Group B campaign with a 2-1 win over Gulf neighbours the UAE, whose second defeat in the the three-team table ended their hopes of reaching next year’s finals in Uzbekistan.
Lucas Oliviera’s early goal gave Qatar a 1-0 lead which they held until deep into the second period with Mohammad Obaid netting a 36th minute equaliser for the UAE, but less than 60 seconds later Rodriguinho (Rodrigo Xavier Da Rocha) restored Qatar’s advantage with what transpired to be the winning goal.
Al Rayyan’s Lucas Oliviera gave Qatar a ninth-minute lead which was looking to be enough to give the 2015 Gulf Futsal Championship runners-up until Mohammad Obaid drew the UAE level with his second goal in as many games following his consolation in strike in Thursday’s 3-1 defeat to Iraq with four minutes left on the clock.
But parity was short lived.Less than 60 seconds later Rodriguinho (Rodrigo Xavier Da Rocha), who helped Al Sadd reach the final of in the inaugural AFC Futsal Club Championship in 2010, restored Qatar’s advantage, which they held for the remainder of the encounter.
