DOHA: Lekhwiya, who had settled for a 2-2 draw with Al Ahli in the previous round, returned to the winning path in the Qatar Stars League as they defeated Al Sailiya 2-1.
Sebastian Soria put the cops ahead in the 52nd while Karim Boudiaf increased the margin in the 60th. Faouzi Ayesh pulled one back by converting from the spot six minutes later.
The victory took the champions to 30 points, two adrift of Al Sadd, who will take on Al Shamal on Wednesday.
Al Gharafa suffered a shock 1-6 defeat at the hands of Wakrah. Argentinian striker Sebastian Saez, who netted a hat-trick (second, 13th and 42nd), was the architect of the win. Johar Al Kaabi (fifth), Adel Ahmed (28th) and Ahmed Kehel (86th) were the other scorers. Gharafa’s lone goal came through Miku in the 23rd.
Arabi came from two goals down to hold Qatar SC. Maher Yousef (fifth) and Khalid Al Zakiba (44th) scored for Qatar while Pablo Hernandez (73rd and 82nd) struck both goals for Arabi.
Meanwhile, Khor conceded a goal in the 95th minute to settle for a 3-3 draw. William Souza (11th) and Reda Shanba (17th) gave Khor a dream start. Though Umm Salal reduced the margin through Abdulkader Ilyas (76th), Julio Cesar restored Khor’s two-goal lead in the 83rd. Tuncay Sanli and Jeremie Aliadiere netted in the 87th and 95th respectively to give the men in orange a point.
Elsewhere, Shahaniya handed Ahli a shock 1-0 defeat. Shahaniya, playing for only the third time under Croatian coach Luka Bonacic, had held Shamal in last week’s earlier match. Ulises Pascua scored the all-important goal in the 47th. It was only the second victory of the league debutants.
