BELGRADE, Serbia: Qatar coach Felix Sanchez on Wednesday said his team's matches this week against Serbia and Azerbaijan would help the side with 'quality' match practice ahead of the FIFA Arab Cup.
Qatar take on Serbia on Thursday and then Azerbaijan on Sunday in their last two 2022 FIFA World Cup, European Zone, qualifying matches.
Qatar's results in the qualifying phase do not count but the 2019 Asian Cup champions are building momentum ahead of the Nov -30-Dec 18 FIFA Arab Cup to be hosted by Qatar.
“The match against Serbia is a great opportunity for us to prepare for the Arab Cup which will be hosted in Qatar,” Sanchez told reporters in Belgrade on Wednesday.
“We will play with all our strength against Serbia and we will try to be more focused to get the desired result. Serbia is one of the strong national teams and plays attacking football. We will work hard to correct our past mistakes and show a good level of football on the pitch,” Sanchez explained.
Qatar goalkeeper Yousof Hassan on Wednesday said Qatar players are confident of a strong performance against hosts Serbia at Rajko Mitic Stadium.
“We have prepared well for this match. we had a good training camp. We know it will be difficult match. We also know the strength of the Serbian team but we are fully focused for the match. We hope to do really well, by addressing the weaknesses and developing the strengths of our team,” Hassan told media on Wednesday.
