DOHA: Mesaimeer have been promoted to the Qatar Stars League after seeing off Al Sadd to victory at the Grand Hamad Stadium on Monday.
Mesaimeer, who beat Al Sadd 5-1 to put themselves on 41 points for the season with one match to spare in the Qatargas League, have competed in the second tier throughout their 19-year existence, they fell one point short of joining the elite of Qatari football when Al Shamal and Al Shahaniya were promoted to QSL last year.
Previously known as Al Shoala, the club enjoys an impressive base of grassroots players, which sets them apart from other second division clubs struggling to attract the right crop of gifted young players.
"We've had faith all the way through the season. I think we can look back and see when we scored late goals and had that always go for the goal mentality. That helped us immensely and it's testimony to the players and staff that everyone's worked really well together. Said coach Yousif Adam.
"After a slow start to the season, we never panicked. We stuck at our game and knew we were performing well. Every side has results which aren't going to go their way but then we started winning games on regular basis which really propelled us to the top of the league.
Mesaimeer will accompany Al Rayyan, who beat Al Ahli last week to secure the first promotion ticket.
