DOHA: Experienced midfielder Wisam Rizq was applauded for his 100 appearances for former club Al Sadd with a unique ceremony ahead of Eljaish's clash against Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions on Friday.
Before the start of the third-round QSL clash at Lekhwiya Stadium, Rizq was presented a jersey by Spanish star Raul who captains Al Sadd. Rizq, 32, has moved to Eljaish after helping Al Sadd to the QSL title last season.
Eljaish later beat Al Sadd 1-0 on Friday.
Rizq, a popular figure in QSL, thanked his fans and team-mates for the 'special ceremony'.
The tall midfielder was part of Al Sadd side that won the AFC Champions League title in November 2011.
He later helped Al Sadd finish third in FIFA Club World Cup Championship held in Tokyo, Japan, in December 2011.
Prior to the start of the new QSL season, Rizq said he was looking forward to the challenge of playing for his new employers.
"It is a challenge playing for Eljaish. That's how I look at it," Rizq said in an interview. "I know have the experience that could be vital for my new team which is very ambitious," he added.
"When the offer came for me to join them, I did not hesitate for a single minute. I like challenges and I am ready for the new season,"
Rizq said.
"I hope I can contribute in a major way as Eljaish chase big trophies in Qatar and in Asia," the ace midfielder and former Qatar national
team captain added.
The tall midfielder played for Al Sadd for nine season appearing in 104 matches.
