DOHA: Two goals by Brazilian Muriqui - one in each half - on Saturday
helped Al Sadd crush El Jaish 2-1 as the Doha giants emerged Emir Cup
champions.
Saturday's one-side win was Al Sadd's 15th Emir Cup trophy in the
tournament's 43-year history.
Although the first goal was caused by a mistake from El Jaish skipper
Wisam Rizq, the second was well controlled by the Brazilian striker.
The first goal was scored in the second minute while the second
striker was managed in the 76th minute.
El Jaish managed a consolation goal in injury time as Romarinho found
the net in the 94th minute.
Watched by the Emir, H H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Al Sadd
dominated passages of play as El Jaish seemed to wobble under pressure
of playing their ever final.
El Jaish, coached by Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi, was seeking their first
Emir Cup glory in six attempts.
Al Sadd, who finished the 2014-15 QSL season without the national
Shield, somehow managed to redeem themselves under coach Hussein Amute
by lifting the trophy on Saturday.
Al Sadd will now turn their focus to AFC Champions League pre-quarters
clash against Lekhwiya on May 26.
With Saturday's Emir Cup final, the official football season now has
come to a close.
The new season will commence in September.
