DOHA: Mishaal Barsham, the Qatari national team goalkeeper who starred in his appearance in the Arab Cup third-place play-off on Saturday, expressed his satisfaction with the victory over Egypt on penalties. Man of the Match Barsham said yesterday: "To win this match is an indescribable feeling. This win has come with a lot of hard work. We won the match with a fighting performance." Qatar has joined the podium of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup after defeating Egypt on penalties in the tournament’s third-place match. The game on Saturday seemed like it could be heading in either direction. But the match at Stadium 974 went to extra time after Egypt’s several attempts on goal were stopped by Qatar’s star goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham. No goals were scored either in the extra 30 minutes. In the dramatic penalty shootout that followed, Qatar won by 5-4. He added: "It was an exciting match. The ambition of the Qatari team was to win the title, but luck did not stand with us in the semi-final against Algeria, so there was a determination from the players to compensate today." He said: "The Qatari team achieved its goal of the tournament, which is the best preparation for the 2022 World Cup. We will certainly continue to work to reach the level we hope for." Barshim thanked the Qatari fans, "who supported the team in the entire Arab Cup tournament".
