HAMILTON: New Zealand: Qatar coach Felix Sanchez on Wednesday said his young side will learn from their losses against 'quality' sides like Portugal and Colombia. On Wednesday, Portugal beat Qatar 4-0 to seal a berth in the round of 16 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. On Sunday, Qatar put up a brave fight before losing 1-0 to Colombia. "We knew before the game the potential of Portugal. They have quality," Sanchez said after his side lost the rain-hit Group C clash Waikato Stadium on Wednesday. "Hopefully we will learn something from this game," Sanchez said defiantly. "I think we were well organised but (Portugal's) goals came from wide balls and crosses. We couldn't defend against such high quality," Sanchez added. "They are a great team," the Spaniard added. "Hopefully the (Qatar) players will learn from this experience and that they become better and better," he added. Striker Ivo found the net twice (42 and 66), after striker Andrea Silva opened the scoring in the 34th minute of the Group C clash. Substitute striker Joao Vigario added the fourth goal in the second half (74). Sanchez said going into the second half with a deficit of 2-0 was demoralizing. "We tried to avoid certain situations with them," Sanchez said. "It was difficult. I think the second goal at the end of first half was hard to play with. That score (2-0) made them more comfortable," he added. "In the second half, we felt somewhat comfortable with the ball but we couldn't be in the game in the second half. After the third goal, the game was finished. "I think the result is not ideal for us. We need to take into consideration that Portugal were in front of us before this game. "Sometimes you miss some details through some good action (of the rival side). I think today we were not good in details and that cost us this match," Sanchez explained. "For us, for a long time we have not played the World Cup. So this is a reason why we have struggled. "Of course when you play a (quality) side like Portugal in such competitions, it becomes difficult," he added. Sanchez dismissed the notion that hard rain on Wednesday could have stalled his players' performance in any way. "I know that in Qatar it doesn't rain too much (but) the players are used to playing outside their country. That can't be an excuse," Sanchez said. "Yes, it was raining, the pitch was good, the weather was okay," he said. "Obviously after this defeat today, we are going to try and get a result in the last game (against Senegal). If we can be one of the best third (side), so it will be great for us. It is our last chance," Sanchez said. "And yes, Assim Madibo won't play the last game. We will see who plays in his place. I am sure we will begin with a good playing XI to start the match," the Qatar coach added.
