PULA, Croatia: A second-half strike by Almoez Ali on Sunday helped Qatar beat El Salvador in an international friendly.
Coached by Felix Sanchez, Qatar posted a 1-0 win over their opponents just days ahead of their Gold Cup debut in the US.
Qatar played most of the match with 10 men after Abdulaziz Hatem was red carded in the 20th minute.
Both teams failed to score in the first half. However, Qatar picked up momentum in the second when on the 69th minute Ali fired into the net after a slick move.
Last week Qatar head coach Sanchez named 23-player squad for this month’s CONCACAF Gold Cup set to take place in the US.
The Asian champions are currently undergoing a training camp in Croatia to prepare for the event where they will make their debut.
Qatar will play their first Gold Cup match against Panama on July 13. The Asian champions will play their other Group D matches against Grenada on July 17 and Honduras on July 20.
