Vienna, Austria: Al Annabi defeated Jamaica 2-1 in a friendly on Thursday at Sonnensee Stadion in Austria, marking Carlos Queiroz's first victory as Qatar's head coach.
The Asian champions scored first in the 31st and 39th minutes thanks to goals from Homam Al Amin and Mohammed Muntari, respectively, before a 61st-minute penalty from Jamaica cut the lead in half.
“I am very happy with the performance of the players. When there was a need to defend, they defended, and when bravery was needed, they were ready for it,” Queiroz said after the match.
"We are only in our second week of preparation and have a long way to go." "I hope our players improve, and we will work hard to get them ready," he continued.
It was Qatar's second friendly in Austria as they prepare for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which begins later this month.
Al Annabi, who were defeated by a domestic Croatian side in their first friendly, will now play New Zealand on June 19 before travelling to the United States, where Queiroz's team will compete in group B of the Gold Cup.
Qatar will start their campaign against Haiti on June 26 at NRG Stadium in Houston with the match scheduled to kick off at 1:00am (Qatar time zone).
Al Annabi will next meet Honduras on June 30 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale before squaring off with Mexico in their final group tie on July 3 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
