RIETI, ITALY: Qatar's first match under new coach Djamal Belmadi saw
them share a goalless draw with Macedonia on Friday in an international
friendly held at the Manlio Scopigno Stadium in Rieti, Italy.
Qatar, ranked 95 in the world to Macedonia's 80, created the bulk of chances
but could not finish off their European counterparts.
Hassan Al Haydoos had the game's first on-target effort as he tried to fire in
from afree kick, but keeper Naumovski made the save for Maacedonia.
Qatar's first half attacking forays were made futile courtesy of a solid Macedonian
back line that prevented Khalfan Ibraim and Khokhi Bualam from giving Djamal
Belmadi a lead in his first appearance as Qatar coach.
in The Second Half, beset with a large number of substitutions, Qatar had to accept
play and watch their Macedonian oppononted equally squander a handful of big chances.
Qatar has two major assignments in the next few months beginning with the Gulf Cup later
this year and the 2015 Asian Cup to be held in Australia in January next year.
This is the first overseas trip for the Qatar squad now being coached
by Belmadi.
