MANAMA, BAHRAIN: Qatar Futsal national team stopped at the final
hurdle at the GCC Futsal Championship, finishing second behind defending
champions Kuwait after losing a tense 2-5 final.
Qatar reaching the final in this year's competition came as a pleasant
surprise in comparison to an abysmal second to bottom finish two years
ago in the edition held in Qatar.
Following a 3-1 lead for Kuwait in the first half, an early goal for Qatar
revived Michael Straaz's men hopes of leveling the score, but two
Kuwaiti Goalsnear the endtook the game beyond them.
Ealier in the night, United Arab Emirates finished third after beating
Oman 3-1.
Qatar were awarded the fair play award in the final ceremony, while
Kuwait's Ahmed Al Farsi was chosen MVP of the tournament.
