MANCHESTER: Ireland's U21 on Friday beat Qatar's Olympic squad 4-1 in
a friendly at Bury’s Gigg Lane.
A first half double from Sean Kavanagh added to Alan Browne’s second
half strike and a late Harry Charsley finish, was enough to secure the
victory for the Irish side, details revealed on Saturday.
The opening to the game was a tight affair with both teams holding
their own on a chilly evening in Greater Manchester.
Head Coach Noel King made six changes at half time as he kept his
squad fresh ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Andorra.
Qatar reduced the deficit midway through the second half as Almoez Ali
Abdulla fired past the outstretched glove of Eric Grimes.
For Ireland, the game against Qatar U23’s was a warm-up fixture ahead
of Tuesday’s UEFA U21 Championships Qualifying Round Group 2 qualifier
against Andorra.
The England camp comes just days ahead of West Asian Championship to
be held in Doha from September 30 to October 14.
Qatar will now play a friendly game against the U.S. national side on
September 8.
Qatar squad landed in Manchester on September 1.
The players will return to their club duties after the completion of
the training camp on September 9.
