Bangkok: Saudi Arabia and Qatar exited the AFC U-16 Championship on Thursday as a 1-1 draw between the pair at Rajamangala Stadium left the pair winless in Group D.
With both sides realistically needing to win to keep their quarter-final hopes alive, Khalid Dubaysh's 86th minute header looked to have handed Saudi Arabia all three points after Nasser Al Ahrak had missed a second-half penalty for Qatar.
But with Hassan Ahmad heading home in fourth minute of stoppage time for Qatar, the pair ended the campaign tied for third place behind Iran and Syria after each picking up a second draw of the campaign.
Following an opening half an hour of few clear-cut chances, Saudi Arabia did have the ball in the back of the net 12 minutes before half-time, but Abdulrahman Shanar had strayed offside before turning in Khalid Hazazi's cross at the back post.
Saudi Arabia again went close six minutes after half-time as a free-kick from full-back Dubaysh crashed against the underside of the crossbar, but Qatar were fortunate as the ball bounced down on the wrong side of the line.
And Qatar nearly took full advantage three minutes later, but after Mohammad Al Bassas was adjudged to have blocked Abdulrasheed Umaru's cross with his hand, Al Ahrak saw his poor penalty easily saved by Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Salman Al Saeed.
But with four minutes remaining, Dubaysh towered above the Qatar defence to direct a header from a left wing corner past Qatar goalkeeper Mohammed Ibrahim.
Qatar, though, equalised in stoppage time as Hassan Ahmad directed a glancing header into the bottom corner.
