Doha, Qatar: Qatar head coach Carlos Queiroz announced a 24-player squad to feature in the Jordan International Quad Championship, which gets underway in Amman today.
Arabian Gulf Cup champions Iraq, besides hosts Jordan and Iran, are the other nations participating in the competition, consisting of two Match Days at the Amman International Stadium.
Qatar, the defending Asian champions, will face Iraq in the opening game today, while Jordan will take on Iran. The tournament's championship game and a consolation game between the losing teams will be held on the final day, October 17.
After last month's home friendlies, in which Al Annabi lost to Kenya and were held by Russia at Al Janoub Stadium, veteran Portuguese coach Queiroz has made several changes in the latest squad as he continues to test his players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
Following minor injuries sustained in training, the Qatar Football Association announced that goalkeepers Saad Al Sheeb, Yousef Hassan, and defender Boualam Khoukhi will not participate in the competition.
Al Sadd forwards Akram Afif, Hassan Al Haydos, Ali Assad, and Yousef Abdelrazaq have all been re-called to the Qatari national team. Almoez Ali of Al Duhail, Ahmed Alaa of Al Gharafa, and Hazem Ahmed of Al Wakrah also remain in the squad.
Before the four-team event, Qatar carried out a brief training camp at the Khalifa International Stadium led by Queiroz.
