Doha: In a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Thursday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) overcame an early deficit to defeat Qatar 3-1 at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium.
Qatar's Ibrahim Al-Hasan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, marking his first international goal for the home team. However, the UAE responded strongly in the second half. Harib Abdalla Suhail equalized with a stunning left-footed strike in the 68th minute, sending the ball into the top corner past Qatari goalkeeper Mesaahl Barsham.
The UAE continued their dominance with Khaled Ebraheim scoring from outside the box in the 81st minute, thanks to an assist from Suhail. Ali Saleh sealed the victory with a goal in stoppage time (90+4') after a precise setup from Hunt.
This win not only secured the UAE's first victory over Qatar since 2015 but also marked their first triumph on Qatari soil in over two decades.
