QFA, AFC conclude grassroots football day

The AFC Grassroots Football Day festival, organised annually by the Qatar Football Association, concluded at the Aspire Sports Academy Hall. Al-Duhail won the overall excellence shield for the current season, surpassing the 14 participating clubs, with over 450 players from the age groups of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. The festival included competitive matches that showcased exceptional technical skills of the talented players, as well as the notable participation of promising referees who officiated the matches. The event was held in ideal conditions and featured diverse and purposeful activities that aimed to bring joy and foster artistic competition among the young players, with a significant presence of parents, coaches, and stakeholders. The festivities concluded with the awarding of the winning teams in the 2022-2023 Grassroots Festivals. The final results were as follows: 2011: 1. Al-Rayyan 2. Al-Ahli 3. Al-Duhail 2012: 1. Al-Ahli   Mr Fahad Thani Al-Zarra, the Development Department Manager at the Qatar Football Association, expressed his happiness with the atmosphere that characterised the final day of the festival. He noted that this season's festival was a continuation of the Qatar Football Association's success in winning the gold medals for the past two seasons from the Asian Football Confederation. Al-Zarra emphasised the importance of the festival, highlighting the need to focus on talent development programmes starting from the junior stages. "Such programmes require significant efforts, educational expertise, and specialised training, which the Development Department strives to achieve by providing coaches with refining and training courses throughout the year," he said. The recognition and celebration of young players' achievements at the festival aim to motivate them to further enhance their abilities in the future. On his part, Mr Mohammed Al-Hashemi, the Strategic Planning Advisor at the Development Department, commended the Qatar Football Association's tremendous efforts, which resulted in winning the gold medal twice as the best organiser of grassroots festivals in the Asian continent. Al-Hashemi emphasised the Association's commitment to highlighting the importance of expanding the age categories in football, as they form the foundation for building a strong football community.   Dr Zain Al-Din Azzouza, the Technical Head of the Juniors Department at the Development Department, said, "The Qatar Football Association is keen to organise this festival in conjunction with the AFC Grassroots Football Day, according to the regulations set by the Asian Football Confederation. It is a predetermined and obligatory day for all countries implementing the juniors' competition system. The festival serves as an encouraging incentive for players within these age groups."
