Doha: This morning, on August 21st, at the Qatar Football Association's headquarters, Ali Hammoud Al-Nuaimi, the QFA's Head of Competitions, and representatives from the clubs competing in the tournament drew for the QFA Cup, which will be played during the 2023-2024 football season.
The teams were randomly assigned to one of five groups of four, with the following results:
Group A: Al Shahaniya, Mesaimeer, Al Wakra and Muaither.
Group B: Al Waab, Al Kharaitiyat, Al Arabi and Qatar SC.
Group C: Al Sailiya, Lusail, Al Gharafa and Al Sadd.
Group D: Al Khor, Al Shamal, Umm Salal and Al Rayyan.
Group E: Al Bidaa, Al Duhail, Al Markhiya and Al Ahli.
The tournament's group stage matches will begin on September 3rd, and the match schedule will be released later.
The competition features teams from both the first and second divisions, each fielding a squad of under-21 players.
The group stage will be played in a round-robin format, with the top team from each of the five groups and the top three second-place finishers advancing to the quarterfinals. From there, the tournament will follow a knockout format to determine who advances to the final match.
It is worth noting that Al-Sailiya won the first edition of the event, while Al Arabi won the second.
As a refresher competition that QFA arranged to compensate for the interruption time caused by the ramifications of the Covid-19 epidemic, the tournament's inaugural edition was played during the 2021 season.
