DOHA: The members of the Documentation Committee of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) have constantly remained in touch with Qatari clubs, as part of its ambitious plan to completely document the history of Qatari football.
Within the framework of the work plan of the Documentation Committee, a series of field visits to Qatari clubs were conducted in order to communicate directly with them, and to formulate a common vision towards a reliable and official documentation of the clubs' history and achievements in football, from their inception until now. This will include the narration of the success stories of the legends and stars from the past, and current players as well, who represent the clubs' true heritage.
Since its establishment, the Documentation Committee has set goals and objectives aimed at uniting efforts in this regard, in order to make the Committee’s work a reliable reference and an officially approved source of information on Qatari football throughout generations. This is the approach which was put in place by QFA President His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, who has paid great attention to the work of the Documentation Committee. Concerted efforts, continuous work, and strong will arising from a sense of patriotism, can help achieve these objectives.
The early years of Qatari football, through which the sports movement began in the country, will now be recorded and officially documented. The Committee's records will showcase the history and achievements of Qatari football, through teams, clubs and individuals, showing Qatar's presence on the global footballing map as it prepares to welcome the world at the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
In terms of Qatar's creativity and excellence at the organisational level, the World Cup will also be a source of information that will be documented forever, amidst a long track record of hosting huge events. It won't be the last, with Qatar continuing to host successful events that will be immortalised in the pages of history.
New ideas, constant cooperation
The Documentation Committee's visits started with Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Al Rayyan clubs, which brought fruitful results. The Committee members met with the club representatives with the aim of getting acquainted with the history of these clubs and reviewing their archives since their establishment. Motivated by a sense of patriotism, everyone involved in these efforts came together with great sincerity, to contribute to the documentation of the immense history of Qatari football.
The work plan of the Documentation Committee in the upcoming period includes visiting all the other clubs and holding meetings with their officials to document their history, through professional work and also with new ideas that will make the process more efficient.
In this regard, the Documentation Committee renewed its invitation to anyone who possesses information, documents or photographic materials that would enrich the process of documenting the history of Qatari football, by communicating with the concerned officials. The Committee also invited the pioneers, icons and stars of Qatari football to cooperate in this national project by presenting or sharing what they possess of history, information and archive material related to football, to thereby become one of the main pillars to enhance the recording of Qatari football history.
