DOHA: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has made amendments to the mechanism for the participation of Qatari clubs in the next edition of the AFC Champions League for the 2023-2024 season.
According to details, the new decision has been announced by the Competitions Committee of QFA.
According to the latest AFC classification, the four continental participation seats next year have been linked to the 2021-2022 season results.
This means Al Sadd - champions of the last edition of the QSL - have a direct qualification to the AFC Champions League while Al Duhail - the winners of the Amir Cup - get the preliminary playoff seat.
The 2022-2023 QSL season champion will obtain the second direct seat (the supplement seat), while the 2023 Amir Cup champions will secure the second preliminary seat.
In the event that Al Sadd or Al Duhail are crowned the QSL or the Amir's Cup winners in the 2022-2023 season, the remaining two seats (direct and preliminary (supplement) will be for the third and fourth place owners in the last edition of the QNB Stars League 2021-2022 season (which are Al Wakra and Al Arabi).
