DOHA: The Development Department of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) held the final meeting of the 2021-2022 football season for goalkeeper coaches in Qatari clubs. The meeting was held over the course of Wednesday and Thursday. The first meeting was devoted to goalkeeper coaches for the age groups and was attended by 28 coaches. A similar number of coaches attended the meeting on Thursday. Fahad Thani Al-Zaraa, Director of the Development Department, gave a speech to the coaches, while Maher Bayrakdar, Technical Director of the Goalkeepers Coaches Section in the Development Department, also spoke on the occasion. The Director began his speech by thanking the coaches for their untiring efforts in the season that just ended which he described as difficult. He said that goalkeeping is one of the most vital sectors of the game's development. "As the goalkeepers’ tasks have multiplied in recent times, a goalkeeper can easily make his team's participation in a game an effective one. He is the last line of defense and initiator of attacks," the Director said. "We often see goals made by goalkeepers with one perfect pass or a counterattack built by the goalkeeper," he added. “The goalkeeper coach is the first influencer in a player’s level because the goalkeeper is a player who has many roles in the team. So the development department works according to the latest international programs on planning, training and evaluation for goalkeeper coaches in Qatar. "We do this because we have a huge phase for the game's development at all the clubs in the country. A coach who feels that he has reached the top of development is not fit for training,” he remarked. He said a coach requires passion and will to make things happen. "We are looking for coaches who want to go through the entire process with dedication with help coming their way from international football experts at training courses and workshops held by the Development Department throughout the year," he said. The Director of the Development Department concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of self-criticism, cooperation and spreading love of the game among the junior players. For his part, Maher Bayrakdar said that the international levels that goalkeepers have reached in Qatar is the result of 10 years of hard work. He said the Development Department has focused on refining coaches through training courses and monthly workshops in the last decade. "I can say the efforts made by the State of Qatar precede efforts made by other countries in the region. Excellence and success do not come from a vacuum, but with the grace of God first, and then with the presence of a group of qualified trainers at the highest level of training," he said. “The next season will focus on specialized courses and continue work in following up the work of coaches, following the completion of a system that includes all Qatar keepers from junior level to youth to ensure a smooth development process," he said. He pointed out that the measure of a coach's success comes from the level of the experts who supervise their training and development. He underlined that the next season should start with the utmost seriousness, beginning with the coach’s notebook, which contains the coach’s work, content and objectives of the training methods. He said setting monthly goals in addition and the need for coordination between the coaches would be key.
