DOHA: Coach Felix Sanchez on Thursday said his team is confident of delivering an improved performance against Senegal when the two teams clash on day six of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The clash between Asian champions Qatar and African giants Senega will take place on Friday at Al Thumama Stadium.
Qatar lost to Ecuador on Sunday while the next day Group A team Netherlands beat Senegal.
"We have to be effective and competitive. I have confidence in my players that they will deliver a better performance in the next match against Senegal," Sanchez said on Thursday.
“The last match did not go as we planned. We can perform better than how we did in the last match. This team has potential to do better. We hope to do our best against Senegal," Sanchez added.
"We have analyzed our mistakes and are ready to play a better match. We saw that all the teams performed well. The World Cup is the most competitive tournament. We know how strong Senegal is, and we will do our best to control the game," Sanchez said.
“Maybe we felt a bit overwhelmed by the responsibility (in the first match). We were nervous as well,” Sanchez recalled. “I hope we can approach the game in a more competitive way. I think that is something we can work towards.”
“We have a lot of room for improvement,” Sanchez said.
Senegal coach Aliou Cisse said on Thursday: "We will work hard in the match. The fact of having lost our opening match will motivate us. Not everything we did was bad, it is up to us to rectify our mistakes.”
