Striker Ibrahim back as Qatar picks squad for 2015 Asian Cup

DOHA: Inspirational striker Khalfan Ibrahim has been included in the Qatar squad for next month's Asian Cup, according to the list named by coach Djamel Belmadi on Monday. But the 23-man squad does not include striker Sebastian Soria who was also not included for last month's Gulf Cup. Ibrahim missed Qatar's Gulf Cup win in Saudi Arabia last month as the Al Sadd forward was nursing an injury. Ibrahim will be partnered by striker Hassan Al Haydos. Goalkeeper of the Tournament at last month's Gulf Cup, Qassim Burhan is also part of the squad. The 2015 AFC Asian Cup will be the 16th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, an international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It is scheduled to be held in Australia from 9 to 31 January 2015. The winners of the tournament will earn the right to participate in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, which is to be hosted by Russia. Qatar have Iran, the UAE and Bahrain in Group C of the tournament. Belmadi and his squad is expected to touch down in Canberra on December 28. The last edition of the Asian Cup was held in Doha in 2011.
